I very rarely talk about my day job. Mostly because I feel like it takes away from what I’m trying to do with my career. See, I sell comics at Jim Hanley’s Universe and I’ve been doing it for the better part of 10 years. Many folks (publishers) believe that because I do that, I can’t write comics. Which makes them Grade A a—holes. So, as I said, I rarely talk about my job (I #followfriday my coworkers on Twitter, but that’s about it).
I have to change that for the night.
Today, in NYC, we had some crazy rain. Truth be told, it wasn’t spectacular, but it was consistent. It rained all day at varying degrees of severity. I live in Queens, and my backyard was flooded, and yes, some of that got in the house. Not knowing what had happened in the other boroughs, I wasn’t privy to what had happened elsewhere.
I saw on Twitter that the Staten Island store was closed today and didn’t know why. Called the store and found out it got flooded. Bad. If you watch the video, you can see how bad.
I have to get to the point here. I’m not sure when the Staten Island store will reopen (I had the day off, but according to Twitter they will be open tomorrow), and in this economic climate, this is a very huge hit. All stores, all over the country, are suffering. So, I’m asking everyone in the NYC comic book reading area to come to JHU this week and spend some money. Yes, support your local comic store, take care of your pulls if you have them, but stop by Jim Hanley’s Universe on 33rd Street and buy something. We have an entire aisle of discounted books.
